I popped the question back in November, so this announcement is slightly belated therefore this is slightly old news to a lot of you by now. Just on Saturday, I finally got a chance to take some photos of myself and my bride-to-be! Almost all photographers do it. There’s something fun and magical about the possibilities when going to a new place, or even better yet, an old familiar place, with a camera to record what you find and the people you meet. I do this very often, and I thought I’d use this space to give a couple of pointers about how to approach a stranger that you want to photograph.

There are at least two sides to all art. The creator’s intention, and the audience’s perception. As you look through these images you’ll see a variety of reactions from a variety of people. These people from different cultural, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds are all listening to the same song.

As we made our way underneath the tracks to the bottom side of the station I noticed from a dark area behind it, a hand waving. I politely waved back, and then I’m approached by a man asking if we’re with the Courier-Journal (the Louisville paper, and we’re not). I’m going to call this man John Doe, as I don’t particularly know his back story and I’m not sure how comfortable he would be with me revealing his actual name to the whole world. We start talking about the building and the history of it, and he informs me that he has lived in/around this train station on and off for over 25 years.
